Listen to the voice of wisdom — my son, wake up!
See how the sunrise glistens; rise up with the sun, rise up!
The lazy man is nothing but a fool; he sleeps right through the cock-a-doodle-do.
Like a barn door on its hinges, he flops on his bed in his cotton britches!
Listen to the voice of prudence — my son, rise up!
And stop the excessive snoozin’, there’s work to be done, rise up!
Take it from an itty bitty ant who has no mother to sing a little rant,
And they do not need drill sergeants; those cute little bugs,
They just keep on marchin’!
Listen to the voice of insight — my son, wake up!
And dance in the land of daylight; bring joy to my heart, my son!
Do not be wise in your own little eyes; the working man is fully satisfied,
But the one with droopy eyelids has a life that’s filled with sad surprises!
My son, son of my womb, son of my heart,
Son that will someday give me grandchildren if you ever get out of this bed!!!!!…
