Lyrics:
Waking I rise, opening unwilling eyes; daybreak is calling me out of the night.
Worry forgotten and burdens at rest – they rise with the sun to trouble again.
Chorus:
But I will surrender and lift up my praise for this is the will of my Father today.
Earnestly praying, awake with thanksgiving; I will surrender, surrender and praise!
When morning greets* the sky my heart awaking cries, “May Jesus Christ be praised!”
Alike at work and prayer, of Jesus I declare*: “May Jesus Christ be praised!”
Weary without and much more weary within; this marks the journey, the battle with sin.
Failure would have me and guilt overtake – my spirit a captive if silent I stay.
The night becomes as day when from the heart we say: “May Jesus Christ be praised!”
The powers of darkness fear when this sweet chant they hear: “May Jesus Christ be praised!”
Let all the earth around ring joyous with the sound: “May Jesus Christ be praised!”
In Heaven's eternal bliss the loveliest strain is this: “May Jesus Christ be praised!”
Be this, while life is mine, my canticle divine: “May Jesus Christ be praised!”
Sing this eternal song through all the ages long: “May Jesus Christ be praised!”
